TAVA2018 is announcing three open calls!

Architectural lighting design and light art festival Tartu in Light TAVA2018 announces three open calls for the next year’s festival. We are seeking speakers for the lighting design conference, architectural lighting design workshop heads as well as installation artists.

We welcome both international and Estonian artists/designers and researchers who are working with or studying light-related art, design and improvement of public space. The deadline for all open calls is January 15, 2018.

Apply to be a speaker at the conference

One of the main events of the festival is the TAVA2018 lighting design conference (Oct 25, 2018) that carries the title “Resilient Design in a Changing World”. All professional designers, artists and everyone interested will have a chance to make direct contact, exchange knowledge, experience and creative inspiration. The curators of this year’s conference are lighting designers Johan Moritz and Tina Wikström.

We are seeking five experienced and professionals speakers (designers, artists, researchers) who are studying or/and working with light, perception and public space. More info here.

Apply to be a city-space light-installation artist

The curators of TAVA2018 city-space installations are Varvara Guljajeva and Mar Canet. This time the concept is “Radical Light”. We are looking for artists’ drafts that radically re-conceptualize the city-space. The aim is to draw attention to social, space and politics-related topics.

TAVA2018 is encouraging to create new and site-specific installations that will raise awareness of social and city-space related issues. At the same time the aim is to give visitors an opportunity to experience light and space from a different perspective. During the festival five outdoor installations and one indoor installation will be created. More info here.

Apply to be the head of architectural lighting design workshop

As architectural lighting design workshop heads we seek professional designers who are members of IALD (International Association of Lighting Designers).

The curator of architectural lighting design workshops (Oct 20-24, 2018) is Sabine De Schutter. The goal is to provide training on main topics in lighting design and to give students, professional lighting designers and everyone interested in a hands-on experience from sketching the vision to eventually building the installations.

Three selected workshop heads will have a unique opportunity to call forth inspiring changes in Tartu city-space. After the sunset all workshop sites will become landmarks to visitors, demonstrating the possibilities of architectural lighting design and different ways of how light can change nighttime identity of a city.
