Remember last autumn? The week, when the center of Tartu Old-Town turned into a light mecca and one could see a lot of people moving around with wires and lamps? That was Tartu in Light, TAVA – the very first architectural lighting and light art festival in the history of Tartu.

TAVA will light-up Tartu again. Mark your calendars for main events 25-28.10, 2018 and make sure to bring your sunglasses! The full program for the festival will last for entire month (Oct. 20 – Nov. 20). During this month, TAVA offers visual spectacles for visitors and new knowledge for participants and lighting design professionals. If you are interested in taking part in any of the festival activities, please keep your eye on our newsletters, webpage and social media.

We have a truly international and professional team. Continuing with their excellent work will be, sculptor and installation artist Elo Liiv as the main organizer and lighting designer Sabine De Schutter as curator of IALD workshops. New members of the team are lighting designers Johan Moritz and Tina Wikström as curators of the conference and lightfair. Local artist and publisher Kiwa as curator of indoor exhibitions, artist duo Varvara & Mar as curators of the outdoor light-installations. The entire team carries an enormous amount of creative knowledge and skill-base.

Three well-known buildings in Tartu – The Ministry of Education and Science, Jaani church and Tartu Toy Museum – will get a new facade look with lighting concept design prepared at workshops. We will open several indoor exhibitions and a lightpath full of installations, that offer an exclusive opportunity to experience professional light-art. The conference and lightfair will bring together visionaries, designers, light-product manufacturers, local government representatives and private sector companies. The opening of the festival will be one of a kind – contemporary Estonian music will be mixed with mapping and latest lighting solutions.
